Cannabis vaping versus smoking flower

Vaping has become a popular alternative to traditional ways of consuming cannabis. You may be considering trying a vape product and are wondering the major differences between vaping vs. smoking.

Cannabis has medicinal properties which have been proven to help treat various health conditions, ranging from anxiety to chronic pain and much more.

In Canada, medicinal marijuana has been legal since the early 2000’s. Marijuana for recreational use has been legal to purchase and consume since 2018. Since legalisation in Canada many products have become available.

Smoking Flower

There are many ways to smoke marijuana. The dried parts of the flower can be rolled into a joint using cigarette paper. Some people mix the dried flower with tobacco so it is less potent, this is called a spliff. Bongs or pipes can also be used to smoke.

There are also more potent forms of marijuana than the flower. These are called concentrates.

Vaping concentrated marijuana

A vape pen is a device that heats up concentrated marijuana contained in the cartridge. Vaping concentrated marijuana is a much more potent delivery system than smoking which means you get more high from vaping than from smoking.

Some advantages of vaping over smoking:

Vaping is more discreet as it does not produce as much smoke or have as strong a smell.

Vape cartridges come in a variety of flavours and potencies. You can purchase concentrated forms of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) which is the compound in cannabis that gets you high or CBD (Cannabidiol) the compound in cannabis that provides relief from pain and other symptoms without the mind-altering effects. The cartridges can be easily interchanged using the same vape pen.

Vape products are an emerging market and there are always new products to try.

Learning how to vape weed is generally easier than learning how to smoke it as it doesn’t require knowing how to roll or set up a bong.

Using e-cigarettes or other vaping products are a new technology and more research needs to be conducted into it’s long-term health effects.
