In a world that is obsessed with breeding stronger strains and more potent products, the power of microdosing is often overlooked. If you’re not familiar with the term, microdosing is a technique of consuming small amounts of a psychoactive substance with the intention of reaping the rewards without the associated high. Microdosing has typically been associated with hallucinogens, you’ve probably even stumbled upon advertisements of companies promoting products to microdose psilocybe mushrooms online. In recent years, microdosing THC has gained a following as well.
What’s the point?
When you consume large quantities of cannabis, you might end up experiencing some unintended side effects. Things like anxiety, paranoia, dry mouth, even nausea can turn a good thing bad very quickly. The scientific research being conducted in regards to microdosing THC still has a long way to go, but there have been studies that give it some merit. For example in 2012 a study was conducted on patients with advanced cancer who were unresponsive to the traditional approach of opioid painkillers. The patients were given low, medium, and high doses of a THC/CBD compound called nabiximols. The patients that received the smallest dosage of the cannabinoids showed the greatest reduction in pain, whereas those that received the higher dosages ended up experiencing more pain. It’s important to highlight that cannabis can be effective for helping control a number of chronic conditions. It is also beneficial for those who want to experience the benefits of cannabis without the psychoactive high that comes with it.
How much cannabis do I need to microdose?
Microdosing is something that is very personal. No two people are the same. The amount required depends on many factors, including liver metabolism, previous usage/tolerance, and the genetics of your cannabinoid receptors. In order to find your magic number, you’ll need to experiment until you find the correct dose. It is recommended to start somewhere around 2.5 milligrams and to maintain that level for three days. From that point, you may increase if necessary. You should take the same approach as you would when eating edibles, start low, and go slow. Here are some strategies for non-psychoactive cannabis use.
Which products should I use?
I highly recommend using THC tinctures as they come with a dropper to easily measure exactly how much you’re consuming. Any good THC tincture should have dosage labeling on the dropper to help you determine the exact measurements. Simply drop the desired amount under your tongue and hold it there for roughly 90 seconds before swallowing. We sell a variety of high-quality tinctures on our website, click here to check them out.
