Taking edibles can be downright intimidating, so I’ve created a list of 5 tips for proper dosing when taking edibles for the first time. Hopefully, these tips will help ease your anxiety and provide some valuable insight into my favorite form of cannabis indulgence.
Edibles Hit You Hard
As explained in the video above, edibles hit you harder than smoking. For your first time, I’d recommend setting a day aside to enjoy the duration of the high. Nothing ruins a good time like the thought of responsibilities later that day.
Start Small
Keep in mind that you can always eat more if you’re not high enough, but you can’t eat less. When you get too high, you put yourself at risk of greening out. For those unfamiliar with the term, greening out is like marijuana’s version of drinking too much. You’ll feel sick, anxious, possibly even paranoid. Worst of all, you’ll probably puke. It’s in your best interest to avoid that outcome, so start small. For more information regarding greening out including what to do if it happens to you, click here.
Be Patient
The most common user mistake when taking edibles is not being patient. I couldn’t even tell you how many times I’ve witnessed someone green out because they were impatient and decided to eat more. When you take edibles, the most important thing to understand is they take time to kick in. It’s not like smoking, where you take a drag and you’re baked within minutes. It’s also worth noting that if you’ve eaten beforehand, they’ll take even longer to kick in. There’s no specific timeline for them to activate, so to be safe I’d recommend giving yourself 1-2 hours of leeway.
Understand The Effects Of THC And CBD Content In Edibles
Edibles containing a 1:1 ratio of CBD to THC can provide powerful therapeutic effects. In fact, they produce less impairment than a solely THC product. Adding CBD to edibles can enhance the medicinal benefits of the product while decreasing the adverse effects. What that means is the CBD could reduce anxiety and pain while preventing the effects that you want to avoid like an increased heart rate. Consider trying edibles with a good ratio of CBD to THC if you’re worried about becoming anxious.
Take Edibles In A Comfortable Space
Making yourself comfortable is always a good idea when you’re trying something new. I would recommend making yourself some good food, choosing a show or movie in advance, and grabbing some blankets. It’s always a good idea to have plenty of water nearby as well. Personally, I like to do edibles with my friends and have a movie marathon or play some games.
